In Which I Defend My Love of Awards Shows
I love awards shows. L O V E. Mostly the movie and t.v. ones. I do love music, but I get disappointed in live performances a lot, so I don’t normally watch the Grammys or AMAs. The Oscars are actually my least favorite, mainly because most of the movies that get nominated are Rated R and it’s almost impossible for me to see these before they make it to DVD. I love the Emmys because I have a severe television addiction. But the Golden Globes? They are my Superbowl. Movies + Television + drunk movie and television actors? Perfection.
Yes, I fully realize that they are silly and mean nothing. But the thing is, they entertain me. I love to see what everyone is wearing. I love to look at the handsome men. I like to tell the Twitter who I would like to lick. And just to be clear, this list did include some women. Sofia Vergara? Totally lickable.
Last night, some people I like won. Some people I like lost. I’m in love with Homeland. But I love me some Breaking Bad too, so that one was tough. I haven’t seen Argo. I’m still emotionally unstable from seeing Les Mis. Seriously. To the point where I can’t even see the actors or clips from the movie without getting teary. And then I thought it was smart to download the soundtrack. Sob. Fest. Oy.
I feel like I have a well balanced life. I read. (and not always porn, adult-type novels or fluff). I’ll admit that I love to read YA, but a lot of that has to do with that’s what M reads and I like talking about it with her. Yes, I watch a fair amount of reality t.v., but not as much as I used to. And I watch Downton Abbey. And that makes me smart, right? Whatever, I don’t really care. I love television. I love movies. I love books. I love music. I love entertainment.
I know what’s going on in the world, I have twitter and the internet for that. I read about issues that concern me. I agree that the issues of the world, and our country are important. But you know what is the most important thing to me? That I am happy. And all those things I mentioned above? They make me happy. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all just relaxed a bit? I happen to think it would.
And I’m sorry, if these clips don’t make you laugh, I’m not sure we should be friends.
